oil painting of a boathouse at the end of a long pier

The is an oil painting showcasing a natural landscape featuring a lighthouse. The lighthouse is tall with a white body, and its top is capped with a red roof. It's situated to the right of the composition and surrounded by foliage and trees. A path of crushed stones and seashells leads towards the lighthouse, flanked by grass and bushes, and it's dotted with shadows that suggest the presence of overhead clouds or trees outside the frame of the painting. The brushwork is expressive with visible strokes, lending texture and a sense of movement to the scene. The use of light and shadow creates depth, drawing the viewer's eye towards the lighthouse. The color palette is predominantly green, blue, and earth tones, conveying a serene daytime setting.

Hello!

Yes, I take on commissions when I can.

I want to be excited about the painting, too, so I also take into consideration if your request fits with my style and themes. I’ve posted a few examples here and I am happy to talk with you about your ideas for a painting.

PROCESS

I prefer to take my own photo references of your subject but if you have a photo you’d like me to work from, I’d love to see it. If you have more than one photo of your subject, that’s even better. We’ll talk about size and any feelings or point of view you wish me to convey about the subject. I will probably suggest cropping your image or modifying some elements to create the most harmonious composition. We will work together to agree on the picture.

Timeline
I am actively showing my work in exhibitions and galleries and have commitments to those timelines but once beginning a commissioned piece I can usually complete it in about three weeks. Since I paint in oil, the  paintings will need time to be dry to the touch—about two weeks—so keep that in mind as you determine your deadline to receive the finished work.

Pricing
I start with a minimum price based on size. When I look at the scope of your request, I will determine the final price. The following will give you an idea for unframed paintings:

9 x 12 = $540
11×14 = $690
12 x 16 = $860
16 x 20 = $1,170
18 x 24, 20 x 20 = $1,580
24 x 36 = $3,020
Other sizes not listed are available at your request.

Works on paper and thin panels need to be framed, and this is something to keep in mind when calculating the cost of a commissioned painting. I can work with you to select a frame or deliver the piece to you unframed.

Payment
I ask for half of the cost as a deposit to get started after you decide on the size, and the last half, plus any shipping cost, due at delivery.

Refunds
I will refund 100% of your cost within 30 days of delivery. I want you to be very happy with your painting, AND I want to be very happy with it, too. I won’t give you something I don’t like, which is why I’ll take it back if you don’t.

Copyright
I retain the copyright to images of every painting. Reproductions can not be made without my permission.
