Painting En Plein Air

Biography

Jennifer Gorman-Strawbridge is a landscape painter whose work celebrates the quiet beauty of the American countryside. Raised in rural Chester County and now based in New Hope, Pennsylvania, she draws inspiration from the rolling hills, open fields, and seasonal rhythms of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Working with oils, Jennifer creates expressive impressionistic landscapes that capture the shifting effects of light, atmosphere, and season. She paints both en plein air and in her studio, using thick paint, confident brushwork, and strong compositional design to convey the mood and emotional resonance of a place.

Subtle architectural elements and occasional figures highlight the enduring connection between people and place, inviting viewers to slow down and reconnect with the natural world. After a career in marketing, communications, and event planning, Jennifer now devotes herself fully to her painting practice and shows her work regularly in regional exhibitions and galleries.

Jennifer earned a BA in Fine Arts and Philosophy from Hamilton College and has continued her artistic development through workshops and study with accomplished artists. After a career in marketing, communications, and event planning, Jennifer now devotes herself fully to her painting practice and shows her work regularly in regional exhibitions and galleries.

Artist Statement

Nature as my muse…
Mark-making fleeting moments:
color, texture, reflection.

- Jennifer Gorman-Strawbridge

Art-making has long been an essential outlet for me, a source of curiosity, study, and renewal. From an early age, it offered both joy and immersion, a space to experience the quiet focus of creative flow.

Oil is my preferred medium for its vibrancy, flexibility, and depth, and I am especially drawn to the interplay of light, shadow, and reflection. I paint representational landscapes in a loose, impressionistic style, capturing moments that invite viewers to slow down and engage more deeply with their surroundings. A lifelong connection to the outdoors informs my work, along with a belief in nature’s restorative power.

Since moving to New Hope in 2017, I’ve found continual inspiration in the region’s farmland, river views, and rich artistic legacy. Painting from direct experience, immersed in sunlight, wind, and the sounds of nature, deepens my connection to place. I hope my paintings offer viewers a sense of peace.
